One of the most awaited events of every department in an academic year is the branch’s tech fest. Same goes the case for the Production Engineering Department of VSSUT, Burla. Christened as GAMUT, this year it incorporated the theme of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and ‘Captain Jack Sparrow’ made the fest worth remembering.
The annual extravaganza was kick started by the HOD of the Production Engineering Department, Prof Dr Debadutta Mishra Sir on 30 March 2018. Thereafter, it was followed by a powerpoint presentation on one of the most revolutionising technologies of the modern era: 3D printing. An AutoCAD modelling competition was also organised to test the designing mettle of the students. What followed could be conceived as a great innovative idea to utilise the waste materials in the best possible way: the Junkyard competition. A humongous participation from the freshman years not only designated the success of the event, but also displayed the creativity and innovation level that they possessed. A general quiz was held amidst all the technical events to keep the spirits high among the mass. The day came to an end with numerous fun events such as mad dog, nose dive, balloon pyramid, nut stacker, talk nonsense and many more. The major attraction among the fun events was follow me. A group of 5 with 4 blindfolded and the other made dumb, were made to drop a ball in a basket by forming a chain. And then, as a day does not end without a grab of snack, food packets were distributed among all.
And another day, another story!! Debashish Mallik , currently working in the FRP plant, Hirakud was invited as the Chief Speaker to enlighten the students about AUTOMATION AND PRODUCT DESIGN. This was followed by a prize distribution ceremony rewarding the students for all the efforts they put in. The Chief Guest was presented with a memento to embrace his gracious presence on the occasion. The 2nd half of the 2nd day saw a manifold rise in the spirits of the mass, all thanks to some cucking frazy dance performances by 1st years as well as final year boys. A drama performed by the 1st years initiated a huge roll of laughter among the audience mass. The day ended with the most awaited moment: the announcement of Mr and Miss Production, awarded to the most deserving candidates.
Captain Jack Sparrow did provide a huge respite from the monotonous life that everyone is sustaining.
“Team ViSSion wishes Carpe Diem to all the friends in the Production Engineering Department!”
