VaSSaUnT 2018, the three-day cultural rendezvous of VSSUT, Burla, began on the 9th of March, 2018. Themed Superheroes vs Supervillains, the fest didn’t refrain to stand by the theme.
The grand inaugural ceremony of the fest, held in Sir Visveswaraya Auditorium, was presided over by the Honorable Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Atal Chaudhuri, Dean, Students’ Welfare, Prof Debudutta Mishra, Vice President, Cultural Association, Dr CR Deo, Faculty Advisor, Cultural Association, Prof Gautam Behera and the Students’ Coordinator, KV Vivek. The Chief Guest of the ceremony, Padmavibhusan Srijukta Raghunath Mohapatra, is an architect and sculptor from Odisha state in India.
The inaugural ceremony started off with the presentation of bouquets to the dignitaries on the dais and then, the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The Chief Guest and the Vice Chancellor addressed the gathering with highly motivating and encouraging words.The ceremony raced up with the releasing of REFLECTIONS 2018, the University magazine. Covering the academics arena as well, the 1st semester boys and girls toppers were awarded by the dignitaries. Finally, the Faculty Advisor presented the vote of thanks, followed by cultural performances marking the beginning of the various events of the three day cultural extravaganza.
In order to bring the future diplomats into light and hone the debaters accordingly, the Literary Society kick started its flagship event AIPPM: All India Political Parties Meet. The delegates debated on the given agenda of “Discussing the possibility of uniform civil code”. In the interim, the Dramatics Club, EMoTICA, hosted a dramatics workshop under the guidance of Soumyadeb Hui .
The Art and photography Club, PIXELS, also hosted a photography workshop presided over by the Sambalpur Photography Club. DRISHYA, a documentary film making competition, was organised by the Audio Visual Club. QUIZZINE, the quizzing club, organised a comics quiz in lieu of the theme of Superheroes v/s Supervillains of the fest. Artistdom, Symphony and Rock & Rolla were among the other major contests organised.
The Cultural Evening of Day 1, commenced in the open air theatre with mesmerizing performances by SOULS, the official music club, VIBRANZ, the official dance club and a bone-tickling drama act by EMoTICA. The girls of final year put up a dance performance which was followed by a ramp show by the boys of final year, showcasing their innovative sense of fashion. The evening concluded with a ramp walk show by the beautiful girls of final year of all branches.
It is said that morning shows the day. It is said that well begun is half done. But nobody said that dark dawn in the morning brings darker dusk at the end of the day. Nobody bothered to look at the other half of what was well begun… Did anyone?
