11080644_903542906364713_3316528467408203015_oThe quizzing laurels just keep on coming. Hot on the heels of the historic crucible win last month another VSSUT team has planted the college flag at a national level civil engineering quiz.

The team comprising of members :

Saunak Kumar Das    – Final year Civil engineering

Vivek Pradhan           – Final year Civil engineering

Deepak Kumar Rout   – Third year Civil engineering

Won the prestigious AADHAR Quiz conducted by Konark Cement and AIMA (ALL India Management Association) at Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Quiz structure

Questions in the quiz were on basic civil engineering and on the famous architectural structures from around the world. A total of 150 teams participated in the quiz from the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha. A total of 55 colleges held the preliminary round of quizzing to select the college representing teams. VSSUT, Burla had 3 participating teams in the finals.

On the D-Day

The finals of the quiz were held at ITER, Bhubaneswar. A screening test in order to filter out 12 out of the 150 qualified teams was held at the beginning. The quiz then was divided into 2 semi-finals comprising of 6 teams each. The top 3 teams from each semi-final moved onto the grand finals.

Our college team cruised through the semi-finals with the highest aggregate score in their pool. Another notable performance was one of our sister colleges from western Odisha, Silicon Institute of Technology, Sambalpur. They too topped their semi-final pool. Hence going into the finals things looked bright for teams from Odisha.

The stage round threw up some interesting sections. Apart from rounds on technical and basic civil engineering , a Google Earth round also took place. The finals turned out to be a cakewalk for our college team as they took on an aggressive lead from the first round itself and never looked back. VSSUT, Burla ruthlessly dominated the quiz and emerged as the undisputable champions at the end.

Winners list is as follows:

VSSUT, Burla  – Champions

BIT, Sindri      – 1st Runners-up

ISM, Dhanbad – 2nd Runners-up

The winning team was awarded with a sparkling trophy and a cash prize of 50k rupees. Job offers were also contemplated for the members of the winning team. In spite of the large pool of teams and participation of colleges “supposedly superior to our college in student quality” (#IUKWIM), our college triumphed in some style and how.

With 2 national level quiz victories in a span of 2 months it’s high time the college officially recognizes the quiz club of the college – QUIZZINE.

This just goes on to show that VSSUT, Burla may have become 56 years young but the legacy of the college remains intact.  Team ViSSion hopes to report more such victories of our proud college on the national stage.
