URJJA: A PLATFORM FOR YOUNG CHAMPS

Play sharpens our talent for empathy and collaboration, it’s the antidote to social isolation

The glisten in the eyes of the blooming generation of a nation reflects its growth and development. As we know, children don’t need more things. The best toy a child can ever have is a present that can get down on the floor and play with them. The best platform, where kids showcase their talents in games and sports is the annual sports meet.

Sanskar Kendra, a self-motivated student body of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, Burla, that dedicates its all into the burgeoning and development of students through tremendous support in education, conducting events and celebrating festivals had organised the annual sports meet, URJJA 2k19 on 14th January 2018 (Monday) in the University Sports Field.

The event took off as the torch was lit at the temple marking an auspicious beginning to this grand event. Prof Sudhanshu Sekhar Das, Dean Student Welfare, Dr Anil Kumar Kar, Vice President of Cultural Association and Mr. Deepak Singh, an employee of MCL Sambalpur who has been closely associated with Sanskar Kendra since a long time were also present at the occasion. Students from the Kirba and Pani Tanki Kendra assembled at the university ground for the sports meet. All the students reported at their respective kendras at 7:00 AM and reached the ground at 7:30 AM. Prof Sudhanshu Sekhar Das graced the occasion with his words of encouragement after which the events started at 8:30 AM.

The students were categorized into sub-junior, junior and senior categories. Events such as 100 metre race, 200 metre race, lemon race, Math race, thread and needle race, sack race, three-legged race, long jump, shot-put took place as all the young souls showed their utmost enthusiasm through participation. All the events occurred in accordance to the time slots which were coordinated by the members of Sanskar Kendra.

After the break, the mode transitioned. Events like music chair, kabaddi, slow cycling took place. Fun events like skipping and ‘puchi’ was also arranged for the girl students. The children had a lot of fun and were super excited for all the events. Who wouldn’t want to play and enjoy all day long?

This proposition seems more alluring with the distribution of prizes for each event, that will take place on 26th of January, 2019. The kids were extremely joyous and had their share of enjoyment. This event brought out the best inside the children. New talents emerged and they got to know about how good they were at various events. Apart from academics a whole new platform emerged that has already captured the interests of kids.

Even though there would be less winners and others would just participate, the members encouraged them to take part and inspired them to improve in a better way rather than getting jealous of each other. They have made it a great point to appreciate the loss and focus on improving. They taught them to embrace the loss because that is the key to win. The whole point of conducting URJJA was to inculcate sportsmanship among the children because we all know that a seed sown, grows up into a beautiful plant that serves others in the future.

Sanskar Kendra has put a drastic effort in the upliftment of those around us. They have helped the needy in the nearby villages to educate their kids on a daily basis, organize events and celebrate numerous festivals and bring them at par with the real world. They have introduced E-Learning and taught them to use computers for basic purpose. They put in their best efforts to help the kids qualify Olympiads and competitive exams like NRTS, SSC, etc.

And hence, it’s said,

Never ever be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.
