Team VEERRACERSS, a collegiate chapter of SAE Club of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, Burla recently participated in the SUPRA SAE India 2015 event, held at Madras Motor race track, Irungattukottai. It was a team of around 25 members with their faculty advisor, Dr. P Nanda who made an attempt to compete against institutes from all over India. After spending myriads of sleepless nights, with utmost adherence the team managed to present the Formula type car- Ventus 15.2 at the race track.
Surpassing hard-shelled rounds, in a rat race of tentatively 110 teams, Team VeerRacerss got placed in the 47th position by proving their fortitude and expertise in the subsequent rounds. Among the 110 teams, around 91 teams had their cars completely fabricated for the static event, Ventus 15.2 being one of them. In order to proceed to the consequent rounds, the cars were made to go through intent scrutiny. There were technical inspection rounds, where a thorough inspection of the components of the vehicle was done. Along with the designing events, cost and business events were also hosted in which the team performed quite well.Ventus 15.2 was powered with single cylinder engine of KTM DUKE 390, having its independent push rod suspension in rear. Further a customized intake system was made by 3D printing technology, fuel tank, equipped with Real time Pit monitoring system to monitor location, speed, temperature of radiator, heart beat of driver; wireless at a distance of 300m.The PIT KILL TECHNOLOGY involved in the vehicle aims at facilitating the pit crew to cut off the electrical system in case of an emergency situation where the driver might not be able to use the on-board master switches due to panic. Ventus 15.2 was highly acknowledged by all the design and presentation judges from the walks of many reputed firms and automobiles industries at the event.
Owing to small hiccups and glitches in the vehicle, the team couldn’t make it to the dynamic event of student formula racing. There were only 8 out of 110 teams who could qualify for the dynamic event. In comparison to the past events of Supra SAE, the level of competition had increased emphatically, making it an even more ebullient event to participate in for all colleges nationwide. It was definitely an incredible learning experience for all the team members. The team is also thankful to all its supporters, alumni, Central workshop and the university authorities specially Dr. P Nanda and Prof. S.B. Mohapatra for their valuable inputs and umpteen support. The team is geared up now to make a lightweight, reliable and cost effective vehicle, with an indomitable zeal to come out with flying colors in the upcoming SUPRA SAE INDIA 2016.
