A FAREWELL TOUR – CET

“Good , Better , Best . Never let it rest . Until good is the better and better is the best” .

Riding on the victory chariot after winning the silicon cup. We converged all our efforts towards achieving a new milestone and to get another new shining trophy in our victory-bag. Still in the same whites , say it superstitious or lack of resources , both are genuine. Last year’s first round exit presented a weak image of our team. But defeating the odds is the new anthem of our team.

First Match vs P.M.E.C

A good team that made us fight till the last ball to win the game. After an intense 30 overs the match was finally into our hands. The Innings that Shadowed the result of the match was 19 ball 46 from Kunal Kumar Panigrahi(Vice Captain), Known as the wall of the V.S.S.U.T cricket team . He proved to be the wall – breaker on the day. Posting a total of 135 in 15 overs was not safe due to smaller boundaries and lightning outfields. P.M.E.C were 101/2 with 5 overs still to come. Some good bowling saved the day to honour a brilliant knock.

Second Match vs G.I.E.T Khurda

Later the stages, Better the teams. The level kept on increasing as the tournament progressed. Being the best team in every unit there were high expectations from everyone. Again a good partnership by the openers Siddharth Patra and Kunal Kumar Panigrahi kept the scorer busy and gave the bowlers a fighting total. Bowlers then capitalized on the solid grounds provided by batsmen and secured an easy win .

Third Match vs K.I.T

V.S.S.U.T produced one of the finest performances till date. 10/3 at one stage to the highest score of the tournament (159/6) . It was our captains day, who scored a fifty and some fireworks from Rajesh Ba(wk) with manhattans in last two overs were fruitful for the team. V.S.S.U.T won the match by a large margin of 80 runs.

Finals Vs C.E.T

The second match of the day, after the semis on the same day. The scorching heat of the sun plus the noon heat waves made it an extremely tiring day for our team. Yet again in two months, it was our second final and farewell match to our final years. We were better than ever. Having C.E.T bowled out for 82 runs , We had a terrible start to our innings and more than half of the team was back to pavilion within 5 overs. Some courageous sportsmanship from our lower order final years Rashmi Ranjan Biswal and Ram Chandra Baskey took us closer to the target . Falling short by a margin of10 runs, We let the champions cup slip into the Bags of C.E.T.

The winds before the second innings geared up the momentum away from us , leading to a heartbreak. As always it was another lesson for our team, We are not invincible. Some day you have to lose because it is a game where miracles happen. Sometimes you are on the upper side to look down and move forward or you get to move towards sky without losing strength. A farewell win would have been much better , but we need to get satisfied with what we achieve if we tried our best. All final years played a major role in our victory juggernaut moving without any breakdowns. Kunal Kumar Panigrahi, Chiranjeev Kar, Pratik Sharma ,  Alok Maharana managed the batting department extremely well. Pratik Sharma and  Alok Maharana decided results on the basis of their fielding. Rajesh Ba , one of the finest wicketkeepers V.S.S.U.T has ever produced . Rashmi Ranjan Biswal and Ram Chandra Baskey heading the bowling department . A special year for our cricket team ended with this tournament and we bid a farewell to our best players .
