Yoga is not a religion, it is a way of living that aims towards a healthy mind in a healthy body. To promote this art of living Veer Surendra Sai University Of Technology organized the International event of yoga “Yogutsav 2k19” on the 17th of March,2019. This event was conducted for the second time in the college and it has widened the threshold for upcoming events on yoga and discipline. The event was organized by Hrudananda Prusty, Chief Organizer and secretary of Yoga club, VSSUT, Burla.
The welcoming of the guests and the lighting of the auspicious lamp marked the commencement of the event. The introductory speech was given by the faculty advisor Mr. Gourahari Behera sir. The Chief Speaker Sfruti Sahare, Vice Chancellor Prof(Dr.) Atal Chaudhari sir, DSW Dr. Sudhanshu Shekhar sir, Faculty Advisor Mr. Gourahari Behera sir and the Yoga teacher Mr. Suresh Behera sir were felicitated.
Students performed yoga demonstrating different Asanas or the yoga postures under the guidance of the yoga teacher, explaining their spiritual and physical benefits. Spiritual goals involving the “Tantric manipulation of the subtle body” and at more physical level destroying poisons.
To add the essence of culture to the program Odissi and Sambalpuri dances were presented. Culture is a strong part in people’s lives that influences their views and values, their humor and hopes, their learning and health. Culture enhances the qualities of our lives and increases overall well being of individuals. This importance of culture was shown in a documentary film and through musical mimes.
The chief attraction of the event was the guest speaker Sfruti Sahare, International motivational speaker and the eminent author of the National best selling book, “Think and Win like Dhoni”. This lady with her charismatic personality delivered her powerful speech and kept the crowd’s eyes glued to her throughout the entire session.
Ms. Sahare proved to be the right choice for the event as she got involved with the students completely by trying to free them of their various constraints which usually refrain the youth from proving their caliber and achieving their goals. She brought before the audience the theory of four monkeys – the Procrastinating monkey, the Fear monkey, the Drunk monkey and the Human monkey. The theory elaborated the idea that our mind works like a monkey jumping haywire from one thought to another. The Procrastinating monkey is the lazy one, the Fear monkey is the under-confident one, the Drunk monkey is the confused one and the Human monkey is the true self but is gradually subdued by the rest three. The students enjoyed interacting with her and were jubilated enough.
The huge participation of more than 500 students from within and outside the college marked the success of the event. The event was concluded with a vote of thanks. Man is a physical, mental and social being, yoga helps in the balanced development of all three. As mentioned in the Bhagavad Gita “Yoga is the journey of the self, by the self, to the self”. The team along with the coordinators and the secretary put in their best efforts to create awareness regarding the need to practice yoga. The success of the event added a feat of achievement to the Yoga Club and also to the college records.
