The second edition of the much-awaited annual flagship quizzing event of VSSUT, Burla – ‘VARCHASWA’ was organized on the 3rd of March in the Sir Visveswaraya auditorium, where the entire event was carried out. It was inaugurated by the Dean of Students’ Welfare Prof. Sudhanshu Sekhar Das, the Vice President of Cultural Association Dr Anil Kumar Kar, the Faculty Advisor of Quiz Club Ms. Sarmila Garnaik and the man of the day and quiz-master Dr Somnath Chanda. Prior to the event, more than 50 individuals had registered themselves in 20 different teams.

The event was a MELAS (Music Entertainment Literature Art Sports) based quiz which restricted the team capacity to not be more than 3. Soon after the inauguration ceremony, the quiz-master took over the stage. The prelims round started off at around 11 AM. After the completion of the same, the top six teams were shortlisted for the final round which consisted of two teams from NIT Rourkela, and teams from Silicon Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar, Mother’s Public School Bhubaneswar, a home team from the college and finally a lone-wolf from AIIMS Bhubaneswar, who was earlier gifted with the title of “The Virat Kohli of Quizzing” by the Quiz-master for his past quizzing feats.

The finals began right away after the prelims and after a strong battle between the teams the lone-wolf, Adarsh Kumar Mohapatra emerged as the winner of the quiz beating the home team and both the teams from NIT Rourkela who were giving him a tough competition towards the end of the finals. The home team bagged the first runners-up position, the team members were Aditya Das Choudhury, Som Nath and Shyama Dash whereas the second runners-up position was entitled to the team from Silicon Institute of Technology.

After the successful conduction of event, the Quiz-master and the Faculty Advisor lauded the efforts of the organizing committee of the event which consisted members from Quizzine, the official Quiz club of the college in their thanksgiving speech, followed by which the winners were awarded with a trophy and cash prizes and the finalists received special-mention certificates. The men behind the success of the grand event, Subham Badpanda (Coordinator) and Som Nath (Asst. Coordinator) put in a lot of efforts which rightly paid off eventually.
