“Yoga is the journey of the self, to the self and through the self”. It is practiced to bring spiritual progress in the body and mind for self development by controlling the inner energy. From strengthening the body’s immune system to curing fatal diseases, yoga not only helps us in fulfilling psychological needs, rather, it helps us in living a harmonic life. With the moto of YOGA KARMASHU KAUSHALAM: Excellence in karma is yoga, the official yoga club of VSSUT, Burla hosted ‘YOGUTSAV’, a yoga festival and made a genuine effort to spread it’s importance.

This yoga fiesta was conducted in the AVC on 19 April 2018 from 4pm to 5:30pm. Dignitaries upon the dais were the honourable Dean Students’ Welfare, Dr. Debadutta Mishra Sir, the Vice President, Yoga Club, Dr. Debabrata Giri Sir, the Faculty Advisor, Yoga Club, Dr. Ganeswar Nath Sir and the Student Coordinator, Ashrita Patel. Greenery is the symbol of new beginning and since yoga has a deep connection with nature, a potted sapling was presented to the dignitaries as a part of Vriksha Ganga Abhiyaan, followed by the lamp lighting ceremony to spread a divine grace.  The Vice President, Yoga Club, Dr. Debabrata Giri sir with his far fetched knowledge, gave the welcome speech and the journey of yoga club was narrated. After this, the annual report was presented by Ashrita Patel, the Co-ordinator of the Yoga Club. The club took a revolutionary step for easy connection of students with yoga by launching yoga pocket manuals, inaugurated by the DSW and were distributed to everyone present over there. This manual is a systematic effort done by the club to help students attain perfection by getting control over different nature elements existing in the body through ancient techniques. The DSW delivered a speech regarding the utility of yoga in our lives. The chief highlight of the programme was the demonstration of yoga by the students with apt information provided about the postures. Next in line was the felicitation ceremony of the dignitaries like DSW, VP, Faculty Advisor and the yoga teachers like Suresh Behera sir and Kasturi Behera ma’am.  The function ended with healthy refreshments served to the students and a concluding vote of thanks by the Vice President.

We cannot count the benefits of yoga, we can only understand it as a miracle which has been gifted to the human fraternity by the God. YOGUTSAV was a milestone for the yoga club which saw budding talents in the University and a promising future for yoga in the campus. With a hope to be better and bigger in the upcoming years, YOGUTSAV concluded its tenure…
