Campus decorated to an electrical engineer’s delight, with circuit elements hanging as fruits of a tree that represented the queen of engineering sciences,  and the name of the fest highlighted on the lawn adjacent to AVC,RESONANCE 2K17 was held on 8th& 9th Apr’17.

      The event started with the inaugural ceremony in the AVC, with Dr. Bijan Das  as the Chief Guest, along with Head of the Department, Electrical Engineering and EEE, Dr. R.K.Sahu;Dean CDCE, Dr.P.K.Hota;Faculty Advisor,Mr.Lingaraj Dora , ; Secretary and Asst. Secretary of Resonance, Dinesh Mohanty and Siddharth Satpathy respectively,as the other dignitaries on the dias.The ceremony that started with the lighting of the lamp,concluded with the unveiling of the proceedings of RESONANCE 2K17,by the dignitaries.

        The Chief Guest, former Deputy Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, ISRO and distinguished alumnus of Electrical Engineering Department, VSSUT Burla happened to be the celebrated guest of the event.The inauguration was followed by an interactive session with the young VSSUTians, where he shared his journey from UCE Burla to ISRO.

         After completing graduation, he went on for higher studies and was qualified for MTech at IIT Madras. Inspite of wide job opportunities available to him, his friend advised him to join ISRO, which he got selected for, after a number of refusals from his side. Being profoundly connected to ISRO ever since its birth, when architects of Indian Space Programme like Vikram Sarabhai had started the organisation in a church, he has been experiencing its evolution and expansion of its p rojectstill they have reached to the Moon and to the Mars atpresent. In the time that followed, he developed interest  in electronics and hydraulics, as he suggests, “ Never give up to learn something new.” Being an eminent scientist at ISRO and Professor Emiretus at IIST, Thiruananthapuram, he was close to his simultaneous counterparts, including Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

        Towards the end, he answered a number of queries from the audience. However,he felt,the short span of time was not enough to discuss about even half of his journey in detail.

       This session was followed by many interesting events:

  • Model presentation: A team of four had to present their model before the panel of jury
  • Circuit Debugging: Attempt was to judge the circuit knowledge of the participants
  • Robo-Soccer: Participants had to make robots kick and defend goals.
  • Electrohunt: Clues were supposed to guide the participants to electronic components.
  • JAM: One-minute talk on a given topic related to EE/EEE
  • Identikit: Identification of the kit from a real time image of electrical and electronic components.
  • Linedit: Robots were to be run tracked to black/white lines.

Among the above, circuit debugging, electrohunt, Robo-Soccer and linedit had gained popularity and saw greater participation. The delicious food served alongside in lunch added flavour to the event.

        Taking the tagline “We do it with more frequency and less resistance” a day ahead, the concluding day witnessed a quizzing event based on technical aspects of electrical and electronics. Finally,the valedictory  ceremony where the prizes were distributed to the winners of various events marked an end to the fest.
