Beat The Heat – The VSSUT way

Owing to the ever rising temperature ( hey there global warming! ), this scorching heat and the sweet irony that burla is surrounded by Mahanadi river, summer for every Vssutian is “Hard”. And from the looks of it it keeps getting worse every successive year. Eyeing this “hot” trend here are some summer hacks for you to follow.

1.      Keep hydrated.

It may sound clichéd but in Burla it’s all the more important. With temperatures soaring above 45 degrees and humidity less than 40%, dehydration and sunstrokes are serious issues.

2.      Carry water bottles with you.

Even if they are empty.  Owing to the recent NAAC visit, we now happen to have proper water coolers in college. But hey! Rely on your own bottles, not the ones on the cooler because of the hygiene factor.

3.      Eat foods that are high on water content.

There are plenty of stalls selling water melons and sugarcane juice this season. Add to it the delicious chilled drinks at kalia, cold coffee at the  canteen and a variety of fruit juices at sahu juice centre.

4.      Use sunscreen.

Gender irrespective.  Because how much do you think the skin of the male and female gender differ? You might cite a lot of differences but how much do they differ when you bring a monkey into the picture? Now, you get me. Your skin needs to be pampered.

5.      Bathe at least twice a day

This is for all those procrastinators out there and those lazy bones. Get your asses of the bed and go take a bath.  It won’t just clean you, a bath on a summer day is a saving grace from the scorching burla sun.

6.      Ditch that weight loss plan. Take an auto.

Because the sun and walking back from college don’t go too well together. And nobody wants to faint and get carried to the hospital, do they? If in the worst case, you have to walk, make sure you have an umbrella.

7.      Wear comfortable fabrics that absorb sweat.

Time to say bye bye to that sexy black chiffon suit and those full sleeved striped tshirts. This summer, ladies, try to keep it to cottons in light colors and flowy silhouettes and guys, cotton shirts and t shirts, yo!

8.      Stay in during the hottest hours.

The hottest hours are usually from 11-4 in burla. Better limit yourselves to your respective halls of residence or college. You might want to spend more time with your bae and not be able to do so because of the in times(they’re extended by half hour, thank heavens), but what’s the use when both of you are scorched,  sweaty and irritable? Prevent fights. Stay in. :p

9.      Get a cooler for your room
Because ceiling fans are not equipped to cope with the burla heat. The coolers can be easily afforded of the roomies share the pay and are easily available with Lallu (the orange betel shop near bus stand).

10.  Know Your Body’s Best Cooling Points

Finally, if you’re stuck in the heat and can’t get to a cooler place, know your body’s best cooling points, e.g., your wrist jand neck. By applying a ice cubes wrapped in a towel (or any other cold object) to these pulse points, you’ll cool down more quickly and effectively.

Keep calm, Winter ^EndSem is coming.
